The established process and the birth of the beginning II

EP crude bust - Thank you.

Something like that. Its just going to be a crude clay bust of EP with a cheap speaker connected to a cheap cassette player with a cassette inserted inside playing a text to speech list of everyone who wrote songs for EP to perform. I'm getting the list together now, but its very long.

EP on TP

I want to print application forms for an invented Elvis Impersonator contest. I will then roll them into the paper towel dispenser in the toilet. This piece is Untitled.

This interesting specimen showed me how...

The Man Who Ownes Elvis

Elvis Presely impersonators are under threat of being put of business.America’s estimated 30,000 Elvis impressionists could be forced to give up work after a New York businessman bought the rights to the legend’s name and likeness.Billionaire Robert Sillerman – who also owns the TV show 'American Idol' – last year paid $114 million (£65 million) for an 85 per cent stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises, which is run by Presley’s family.Though the rights do not extend to the singer’s music, Sillerman now has control of Graceland in Memphis, and control of the King’s name and likeness.Previously the Presley family, through Elvis Presley Enterprises, have allowed the majority of impersonators free use of Elvis’ name and likeness. However, speaking to the New York Times, Sillerman has revealed plans to open an interactive Elvis exhibit and an Elvis-themed cabaret show on the Las Vegas Strip, which could mean the end of the line for impressionists.“If we were going to do a show that was based on Elvis impersonators, then obviously it wouldn’t make sense to have unauthorised Elvis impersonators,” he said.

56) Elvis recorded more than 600 songs - but did not write any of them.

41) In 1962 Elvis had a hit with Return To Sender.

In 1992, on the day a commemorative Elvis stamp was issued in the US, many people used it on letters with deliberately invalid addresses so that they would receive it back marked "return to sender", increasing the stamp's value.

30) His 1960 single It's Now Or Never was heard in jail by a prisoner who was so affected by it he vowed to pursue a career in the music industry. It was Barry White who had been jailed for four months for stealing tyres.

Elvis by 2019

The number of Elvies Presley impersonators has reached an all-time record high - there are now at least 85,000 Elvis’s around the world, compared to only 170 in 1957 when he died. At this rate of growth, experts predict that by 2019 Elvis impersonators will make up a third of the world population !

Types of Elvis impersonator

There are many differing types of Elvis impersonator. Most fall under the following main types which are;

Look-alikes who concentrate more on visual elements of Elvis fashion and style using accessories such as wigs, costumes and jewelry.
Sound alikes who concentrate on changing their voice to sing or talk like Elvis.
Combination who try to use a combination of both the visual and aural methods listed above.
Question: How Did Elvis Presley Die?
Answer: Elvis died on August 16, 1977 in the bathroom at Graceland. After being found on the bathroom floor, Elvis was rushed to the hospital where he was officially pronounced dead. The coroner recorded the cause of death as cardiac arrhythmia. While true in the strictest sense (cardiac arrhythmia basically means that the heart was beating irregularly and in this case, finally stopped), the attending physicians deliberately omitted the fact that what had apparently caused Elvis' heart to beat irregularly and then stop was an overdose of prescription drugs. These drugs included codeine, Valium, morphine, and Demorol, to name a few. After this information was revealed, Vernon Presley, Elvis' father, had the complete autopsy report sealed. It will remain sealed until 2027, fifty years after The King's death. Elvis' body is buried at Graceland.

S'in the Name.

R.Mutt

This old image says it best. The name is false. Why would he sign his name to it?
Everyone seems fine with artefact's from the toilet being transported from the toilet to a gallery, so why not use the toilet as a space of its own. The fact that the toilet might not have anything to do with the work may in fact be a metaphor for how much we don't need Duchamp now that we're all grown up.

Toilet Humour II

I thought about doing this...

but then Koji Suzuki did it first, and much bettter.

Its a story written on toilet paper. It even works as an installation piece since the Japanaese traditionally believe that Ghosts hide in the toilet. Its just such a good idea.

Elements of the 1st Floor Male toilet

1) What is the size and shape of the space?
It is made up of one rectangle which is around 14ft long and 10ft wide. The front of the rectangle has a square where the toilet cubicles are. The flow of the room is blocked off by two running walls.

2) What is the quality of light (natural or otherwise)?
Electric lights are available at the command of the users of the toilet. they are mostly off during the day as the large windows, although frosted, allow a lot of natural light in.

3) What is the nature of sound in the space?
Good acoustics really, slightly block of flow due to patrician walls, but overall not bad. Sounds filter through the toilet but rarely out from it.

4) What is the material nature of the space (colour, surfaces etc)?
White walls. Quite dusty, like its natural state is dirty. Not so much from use or lack of cleaning, it just knows its a toilet. You get lots of designs to make people think that taking a shite in the toilet is the last thing you do. This toilet doesnt pander to any such phalisey. Its floors are scuffed and black and fading.

5) What is the conventional use of the space?
Defication, urination and the subsequent, yet worryingly optional, cleansing of the hands.

6) What histories are attached to the space?
Don't as of yet know.

It makes sense in a porcelin world type way. You get people writing things that they would never say aloud, you get folk starting a discussion with a stranger in the intimate surroundings of a bog, and further than tresspassing upon that privicacy with opinions or a well worded quip, they are asked to engage with the discussion.

Toilet Humour

To further the idea of anonymous creativity I went into the toilets.

Anonymity

"Anonymity is derived from the Greek word ἀνωνυμία, anonymia, meaning "without a name" or "namelessness". In colloquial use, anonymity typically refers to the state of an individual's personal identity, or personally identifiable information, being publicly unknown."

I like the idea that in a space that is occupied by artists and creators that their are so many marks no one had laid claime to. I understand that its a a bit of a twee notion but there is something so sincere about the process that allows these marks to come into place. They are creations of those within a building that promotes creativity. They possess form and tone. But they are not themselves possessed. They are claimed and owned by no one, and unified by the motion of randomness that caused their creation, and thusly none of them share anything more than that.

Bona Vacantia

Bona vacantia (Latin for "ownerless goods") is a legal concept associated with property which does not have an owner.

Exploring the Barnes

The marks we don't mean to make whilst making marks we mean to make are made from marks we we meant to make.
